At the end of 2016, the renovation of the Thialf Ice Skating stadium in Heerenveen (NL) was completed. Several studies have learned that a complete new complex was not feasible, so a complete renewal of the existing venue was put in motion, with a stunning result!
Thialf is a famous ice skating stadium used for long track speed skating, short track speed skating, ice hockey, figure skating and non-sports events. The main building is shaped by the 400 m. track, which was constructed in 1986 and was way ahead of its time because of its futuristic and minimalistic material use. After this renovation Thialf is ready to maintain their status of being the fastest ice skating rink of the lowlands.
For the renovation the lighting and sound system of the stadium was also revitalized and updated according to the latest standards. Croonwolter&dros, the client within this prestigious project, approached Eurotruss with the question if we could deliver a solution where they could rig the Philips Arena & OptiVision fixtures plus sound system.
The placement of the fixtures came with high accuracy laser pointed measurements by a computer calculated model to ensure the best possible lighting conditions. Eurotruss delivered two big oval rings of FD34 in 485mtr and 330mtr circumference and a center span of 140mtr straight over the track. A special integrated mounting solution was designed to cope with the exact placement of the lighting fixtures on the truss in combination with the exact hanging points in the ceiling of the venue.
The end result is simply amazing, both skaters and audience enjoy the perfectly lit new Thialf Ice Skating stadium. Fact is that the Thialf stadium is only 30km away from the Eurotruss production facility in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands. We are very proud to have such a great project and well-designed venue in our backyard and we are sure that Thialf is ready for some new world records to be set within this amazing new venue!
